Anti-Slavery Australia - UTS
Animated Explainer Video
Anti-Slavery Australia, based at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), is a leading specialist legal research and policy centre dedicated to the abolition of modern slavery in Australia. They engaged Punchy Studio to create a concise animated explainer video to address the critical communication challenge of raising awareness about modern slavery in local contexts. The brief was to inform the public that slavery can occur in everyday Australian environments such as homes, restaurants, and construction sites, and to provide a clear path for seeking free and confidential legal advice. We produced a compelling 20-second animation that uses a distinctive hand-drawn style to convey the gravity of the subject matter while remaining accessible. Our approach focused on clear, direct messaging and visual metaphors of hidden people to represent those controlled against their will. The video is deployed across social media and educational platforms to encourage viewers to visit the Anti-Slavery Australia website for support. By combining purposeful scripting, custom animation, and a somber yet urgent voiceover, we created an effective awareness tool for a complex social issue. The final scene integrates prominent motion graphics to display the organisation’s URL and the UTS logo, ensuring the call to action is both authoritative and easy to follow.
