Education Services Australia - Algebra Basics
Animated Explainer Video
Education Services Australia (ESA) is a national not-for-profit company owned by Australian education ministers. ESA engaged Punchy Studio to create an educational video for the Math Hub series to address the communication challenge of making fundamental algebraic concepts accessible and relatable for students. The brief was to define pronumerals and demonstrate how to set up and solve basic linear equations using real world scenarios. We produced a clear and engaging animated explainer video that follows characters like Emily and Trong as they use algebra to calculate distances for a charity walk. Our approach focused on multiple problem solving techniques, including trial and error as well as inverse operations, to show students different ways to find unknown quantities. The video is deployed on the ESA Math Hub portal and used in classrooms across Australia to support the national mathematics curriculum. By combining professional scripting, custom animation, and a clear voiceover, we effectively demystified the use of letters as symbols in mathematics. Detailed motion graphics reinforce the learning objectives by visually breaking down equations and inviting students to test their skills with different values and graphical representations.
