Imagery Education - QUT
Animated Explainer Video
Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is a major Australian research university with a global outlook and a focus on providing students with practical skills for the real world. QUT approached Punchy Studio to create an educational tool that explains the concept of mental imagery and its varying effects on individuals. The brief was to address the communication challenge of describing a subjective internal experience, providing a clear framework for how people can harness their senses to create more vivid and impactful mental images. We produced an engaging animated explainer video that uses bright, imaginative visuals to represent the different ways people experience thoughts, from vivid realisations to abstract words and ideas. Our approach focused on practical techniques, such as imagining scenarios through one’s own eyes to increase the sense of presence and emotional connection. The video is deployed within university coursework and psychological research projects to help participants understand and improve their own imagery skills. By combining professional scripting, custom animation, and a friendly voiceover, we simplified complex cognitive science into an accessible learning resource. The integration of creative motion graphics helps illustrate how the mind processes different sensory inputs, from taste and smell to sound and sight, making the intangible concept of a mental image feel tangible for the viewer.
