What is River Health? - NSW DPIE

Animated Explainer Video

The NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) is a state government body responsible for managing the natural environment and supporting local communities across New South Wales. DPIE approached Punchy Studio with the need to clearly explain the scientific complexities of river health to the public. The brief focused on demystifying how scientific data is collected and how the River Condition Index is used to monitor and protect vital water systems. Punchy Studio produced a high-quality animated explainer video that utilises clean motion graphics and a professional voiceover to break down technical indicators like hydrologic stress and geomorphic condition. The approach involved creating a cohesive visual narrative that links environmental data with tangible outcomes for fish, wildlife, and vegetation. This animation served as an educational tool on the department website and social media platforms, facilitating two-way knowledge exchange with stakeholders and Aboriginal peoples. By integrating detailed scripting and bespoke character animation, the final product supports evidence-based decision making and encourages community engagement with the Darling Barka River Health Project. This project highlights our expertise in distilling complex government initiatives into accessible, engaging digital content.
