Protecting Sea Country - NSW DPIE
Animated Explainer Video
The New South Wales Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) works to protect the state’s natural environments while honouring the deep cultural heritage of its traditional owners. DPIE commissioned Punchy Studio to create a video that highlights the vital connection between Aboriginal communities and Sea Country. The brief focused on sharing the results of a 2022 survey regarding perceived threats to coastal cultural connections, such as habitat loss and climate change, while promoting the importance of collaborative management. Punchy Studio produced an evocative animated promotional video that uses a sophisticated, culturally sensitive visual style to communicate these important environmental and social themes. Our approach combined detailed motion graphics with a narrative that emphasises the inseparable link between healthy country and healthy people. By focusing on the shared responsibility of protecting marine life and cultural sites, the video serves as a powerful call to action for community involvement. The project involved scripting, bespoke illustration, and professional voiceover to ensure the message resonates with both Indigenous and non-Indigenous audiences. This asset is used across digital platforms to drive awareness of the work being done to preserve Sea Country for future generations.
