Plastics - NSW Environment Protection Authority
Animated Explainer Video
The New South Wales Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is the state’s primary environmental regulator. The agency engaged Punchy Studio to create an animated video to address the communication challenge of explaining the impact of single-use plastics and the NSW government’s strategy to reduce plastic litter. The brief was to outline the 2022 ban on problematic items such as plastic straws, cutlery, and microbeads, and to highlight the goal of significantly reducing plastic consumption by 2030. We produced a professional animated explainer video that uses clear visual metaphors and data to show that single-use plastics represent 60% of litter in the environment. Our approach focused on the long-term environmental benefits, estimating that the bans will prevent 2.7 billion items from entering waterways over the next 20 years. The video is deployed on the NSW EPA website and through social media campaigns to encourage communities and businesses to find innovative solutions to reduce, remove, recycle, and replace plastics. By combining professional scripting, custom animation, and an engaging voiceover, we effectively messaged the importance of collective action to protect the state’s unique marine environments. Dynamic motion graphics reinforce the call to action, inspiring viewers to work together for a future with less plastic.
