WA DEMIRS - Long Service Leave Record Keeping
Animated Explainer Video
The Western Australian Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS) is the state government agency responsible for ensuring fair and safe workplaces. The department engaged Punchy Studio to create an animated video to address the communication challenge of explaining the compulsory record keeping obligations for employers under the WA Long Service Leave Act. The brief was to outline exactly which employee details must be maintained and for how long to ensure accurate calculation of leave entitlements. We produced a professional animated explainer video that clarifies that all relevant records must be kept for the entire duration of an employee’s service plus seven years after their employment ends. Our approach focused on compliance and risk management, highlighting that employers, accountants, and HR officers can face significant penalties for failing to keep accurate records or for keeping misleading information. The video is deployed on the WA government website to assist businesses in understanding their duties, particularly during a transfer of business where records must be handed over to the new employer. By combining professional scripting, custom animation, and an authoritative voiceover, we effectively simplified complex legal requirements into a clear administrative guide. Precise motion graphics reinforce the call to action, directing viewers to the department’s website for comprehensive information on record keeping and associated penalties.
