Fire Danger Ratings - Country Fire Australia

The Country Fire Authority (CFA) is a volunteer and community based fire and emergency services organisation in Victoria. The CFA approached Punchy Studio to create an animated explainer video to address the critical communication challenge of helping the public understand and respond to the Australian Fire Danger Rating System. The brief was to explain how the daily ratings act as a prompt for action, ranging from moderate conditions to the most severe, catastrophic levels. We produced a clear and functional animated video that uses the official colour coded rating scale to guide viewers through the necessary safety precautions for each stage. Our approach focused on life saving advice, such as the recommendation to leave high risk bush fire areas early in the morning or the night before a catastrophic day. The video is deployed across CFA digital platforms and Victorian emergency portals to ensure residents and travellers can make informed decisions about their safety. By combining professional scripting, custom animation, and a calm, authoritative voiceover, we turned complex weather data into actionable safety steps. Bold motion graphics reinforce the call to action, encouraging Victorians to check their local fire weather district ratings daily and stay informed through official warnings.
