Sewer Treatment - Central Coast Council

Animated Explainer Video

Central Coast Council is the local government authority for the Central Coast region of New South Wales. The council engaged Punchy Studio to create an animated video to address the communication challenge of explaining how household sewage is processed and treated to maintain environmental safety. The brief was to outline the treatment journey across eight local plants, specifically highlighting the removal of non-biodegradable items and the role of microbes in breaking down contaminants. We produced a professional animated explainer video that visually identifies “no-go” items for drains such as wet wipes and nappies, which must be screened out early in the process. Our approach focused on public health and environmental standards, explaining how treated effluent is monitored by the New South Wales Environment Protection Authority before being safely discharged into the ocean. The video is deployed on the council website and water service portals to educate the community on keeping beaches, lakes, and waterways healthy. By combining professional scripting, custom animation, and an instructional voiceover, we effectively simplified the complex science of sewage management for a general audience. Clear motion graphics reinforce the call to action, directing viewers to the Love Water website to learn about using water resources wisely.
