Connecting the Disaster Dots - Willoughby City Council
Animated Explainer Video
Willoughby City Council is a local government area on the Lower North Shore of Sydney. The Council approached Punchy Studio to create an animated promotional video for the “Resilient Willoughby” program, aimed at solving the communication challenge of local emergency preparedness. The brief was to simplify the complex topic of disaster readiness and encourage residents to prepare for specific risks including storms, floods, building fires, bushfires, extreme heat, and health emergencies. We produced a vibrant animated explainer video that uses clear, accessible iconography and diverse character designs to reflect the Willoughby community. Our approach focused on a community-driven narrative, emphasising the importance of checking in on vulnerable neighbours, including the elderly and people living with a disability. The video is deployed on the Council’s website and social media channels to drive downloads of the Red Cross “Get Prepared” app and the creation of personal emergency plans. By combining professional scripting, custom animation, and an informative voiceover, we provided a practical and supportive roadmap for resident safety. Strategic motion graphics highlight the “Resilient Willoughby” URL and social media assets, ensuring a seamless connection to Council resources.
