Alinta Energy is a leading Australian electricity generator and gas retailer with over one million customers. The company engaged Punchy Studio to create an animated video to address the communication challenge of bill shock, which is the feeling customers get when a utility bill is much higher than expected. The brief was to provide practical steps for customers to understand their bills and highlight tools available to manage costs. We produced a supportive animated explainer video that uses clear visual checklists to help viewers identify if a high bill is due to an estimated read, previous debt, or changes in usage and pricing. Our approach focused on empowerment, introducing solutions such as SmoothPay where customers pay a set weekly, fortnightly, or monthly amount and encouraging smart meter upgrades for more accurate tracking. The video is deployed on the Alinta Energy website and through customer support portals to help users feel in control of their energy expenses. By combining professional scripting, custom animation, and a helpful voiceover, we effectively turned a stressful customer experience into a positive opportunity for engagement. Strategic motion graphics reinforce the call to action, directing viewers to chat with Alinta Energy to ensure they are on the best available plan.
