Challenge

Fairfield City Council serves one of Australia’s most culturally diverse communities, with many residents speaking English as a second language. When rolling out a new 3-bin waste system, the challenge was clear: create content that explained proper waste sorting in a way everyone could understand, regardless of language background.

The council needed simple, visual communications that would boost understanding, reduce contamination, and help residents adopt the right habits for the new system.

Solution

We created three short animated explainer videos, each focused on a different aspect of the new waste system. The videos were designed with clarity as the priority, using visuals to do the heavy lifting supported by voiceover and subtitles.

Each video clearly showed what goes in each bin, what doesn’t, and why sorting waste properly matters. Using ticks, crosses, and everyday examples, the content made it easy for residents to build the right habits.

The messaging reinforced how small actions, like using the right bin correctly, can help reduce costs and protect the environment. The tone was friendly and visual, ensuring the message would resonate with everyone in the community.

All videos were produced in multiple languages to serve Fairfield’s diverse population, with content distributed across digital platforms including the council’s website and social media channels.
